COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, JANUARY 30, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:15
a.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator,
Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy
Clerk.
Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecutor, Russ Herman, Defiance County
Assistant Prosecutor, and Robert Bailey, III met with the Commissioners in
Executive Session for pending or imminent litigation with no decisions being
made in Executive Session.
Bob Wagner, Greg Kutzli,
Doug McDonald, James Rath and Dave Keifer, Auglaize
Village Board members, met with the Commissioner to provide an update on
improvements to the grounds. In 2011 the following work was completed: asphalt
entrance at the south drive, poured a concrete slab for steam engine and grader
out front, installed new doors on Farm Building 1 and the Railroad building,
poured a concrete slab at Farm Building 4 entrance, installed new wiring and
doors on the Steam Building, installed a new handicap ramp and porch on the
Lockkeepers House, improvements to the inside of the Post Office and School
House, stoned some of the driveways, and brick sidewalk entrances to some of
the buildings. The dining room in the barn had to be reworked to be able to
hold Board meetings in there due to the number of members attending the
meetings. The Auglaize Village Board is raising money to repair the Big Barn’s
roof and to build a replica fire station.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. Warren
provided a Force Account Job Cost Accounting Report for the small culverts
replaced by the Engineer in 2011. There was a total of
23 culverts replaced with a total cost of $200,869.79.
Rick Edmonds,
Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities, met with the Commissioners
to discuss sharing services. The Ohio Department of Development (DOD) has
scheduled five regional Local Government Innovation Fund (LGIF)
Regional Information Sessions to explain the upcoming Innovation Grant &
Loan Application and Program. The Local Government Innovation Fund (LGIF) was established to provide financial assistance to Ohio
political subdivisions for planning and implementing projects that are designed
to create more efficient and effective service delivery within a specific
discipline of government services for one or more entities. Rick stated that
Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities has been sharing various
services since the 1990’s and continues to look into
options that save money while still operating efficiently.
The Commissioners
attended the Four County Solid Waste District Board of Directors Meeting at
Williams County.
