DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 1, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Matt Davis and Dennis Miller, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to hold the 1st Public Hearing for the FY 2010 Community Development Block Grant, Home Investment Partnership Program and Ohio Housing Trust Fund.  Matt provided information about the programs available and program requirements.  A broad range of activities can be funded through the programs, including: housing rehabilitation, home ownership assistance, economic development, downtown revitalization, water and sewer facilities, flood and drainage facilities, streets and sidewalks, senior centers, parks and demolition of unsafe structures.  A 2nd Public Hearing will be held at a later date.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, opened bids for 2010 Pavement Marking.  The engineer’s estimate was $166,850.00.  The following bids were received: Aero-Mark, Streetsboro, Ohio: $179,000.00; Interstate Road Management, Oak Harbor, Ohio: $170,942.47; Ogelsby Construction, Norwalk, Ohio: $164,849.02; Dura Mark Inc., Aurora, Ohio: $174,286.75.  The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.

 

Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, and Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, met with the Commissioners to discuss positive pay which is a fraud protection system. 

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and the City of Defiance met with the Commissioners to discuss the Sauers Avenue property.

 

Kirkland Mizerek met with the Commissioners to discuss the electric aggregation program.

 

Matt Gilroy met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the Defiance County Airport.

 

Commander Floyd Nicely, VFW, met with the Commissioners to discuss parking during construction.
