NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the

Conference Room of the Defiance County Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, February 12, 2004.  The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Thomas L. Kime.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Becky Wagner, Administrator, and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.     

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session       Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved various travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners discussed the Ayersville School District’s acceptance of the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) in Defiance.  Concerns were expressed about the loss of school funding in this area.  

 

10:30 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly update at this time.   The Maumee Valley Planning Organization will be doing an income survey for the Village of Hicksville as part of an effort to obtain financial assistance for the Hicksville Treatment Plant project. 

 

Defiance County’s Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan has been completed and is awaiting approval by the Ohio Emergency Management Agency.  

 

Tomorrow, Commissioners Kime and Nicely, Becky Wagner, and Dennis McKay, Director of Defiance County Department of Job & Family Services, will be attending an Area 7 Chief Elected Officials Consortium in Delaware, Ohio.  This meeting pertains to the State’s restructuring of the Workforce Development Agency. 

 

The Northwest Ohio Job and Family Services Directors Association is hosting a Legislative Roundtable Friday, February 20 at 9:30 a.m. at the Hancock County Department of Job & Family Services.  Commissioner Kime, Becky Wagner, and Dennis McKay, Director of Defiance County Department of Job & Family Services, plan to attend.  

 

10:30 a.m.     Dennis McKay, Director of Defiance County Department of Job & Family Services, met with the Board to review information for the meeting they will be attending in Delaware, Ohio, on Friday.
