The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, February 12, 2009 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman James E. Harris,
Jr. called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board. Laura updated the Board on various County projects.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, opened bids for 2009 Bituminous Materials. Three (3) bids were submitted for MWS 90, MC 30, RS 2, RS 2P, AEP Prime, SS1H, CM-90, CM-150, CM-300 and GSB. Those submitting bids were Bit Mat Products, K-Tech Specialty Coating and Asphalt Materials. The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.
Bids for 2009 Crushed Aggregate were also opened. Four (4) bids were submitted. Those submitting bids were Custar Stone Co., Napoleon, Ohio; Stoneco, Inc.-Auglaize Quarry, Oakwood, Ohio; Stoneco, Inc.—Scott Quarry-Convoy, Ohio; and Stafford Gravel, Edgerton, Ohio. The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.
Warren also submitted his revenue report; the accumulated revenue for the Month of January, 2009 was $330,535.23.
Jack Graf, Job & Family Services Director, along with Job and Family Services Department Supervisors, Cindy Thatcher, Jane Crabtree, Michelle Reinhart and Larry Husted met with the Commissioners to provide an update. In 2008, the average amount of food stamps given per month was $351,782.00, benefitting an average of 3547.16 individuals.
Kent Martz and Kim Moss, Defiance County Health Department, met with the Commissioners to discuss Environmental Financial Assistance.
Sandra Schappert, Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, and Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners regarding IV-D Contracts between Defiance County CSEA and Defiance County Prosecutor’s Office as well as between Defiance County CSEA and Defiance County Common Pleas Court to provide necessary services.
Jamie Blank, Habitat for Humanity, met with the Commissioners to provide an update of the Agency and discuss the possibility of partnering with Defiance County on the Neighborhood Stabilization Program.
Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts, met with the Commissioners about putting her dockets on-line. Amy informed the Commissioners that starting February 19, 2009, the Clerk of Courts Office will remain open until 6:00 p.m. on the first and third Thursdays of every month for motor vehicle titles, passports and oll other business of the Clerk’s office.
Amy also provided the Board with the January, 2009 Activity Report for the Clerk of Courts. Amy reported collecting legal fees of $10,371.75 and title fees of $2,947.00. The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund received $8,841.35. Amy also reported deposits for the following: legal fees of $56,514.02 and title fees of $415,248.22. The sales or use and dealers tax collected was $397,414.75 and watercraft tax collected equaled $128.05. The number of tiles issued was 1,799, number of notation of liens 526 and number of inspection was 353.
There will be no
session held on Monday, February 16, 2009.
The Commissioners’ Office will be closed in observance of President’s
Day.
