DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates. Laura provided an update from Job and Family Services: In 2011, Defiance County had an average of 5,479 individuals per month receiving Food Assistance (Food Stamps), with a monthly average of $674,890 disbursed. The total amount of Food Assistance distributed in Defiance County in calendar year 2011 equaled $8,098,685. These totals compare with 2010 where Defiance County had an average of 5,345 individuals receiving Food Assistance, with a monthly average of $650,157 disbursed. The total amount of Food Assistance distributed in Defiance County in calendar year 2010 equaled $7,801,880.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy reported investigating 66 calls in January that resulted in 12 dogs taken to the shelter, 16 warnings and 4 citations issued. There was 3,893 miles driven in January. There were Municipal Court fines of $355.00.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services, met with the Commissioners for an update. The Auxiliary Garage / Bake Sale will be held on April 26th & 27th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm & April 28th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Defiance Senior Center. The Senior Prom will be May 16th at The Defiance Eagles, The band Memory Lane will be entertaining for the evening. The 2011 congregate meals totaled 14,712 compared to 11,437 in 2010.
