DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 23, 2012

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 23, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.

 

Nikki Warncke, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to open bids for the Defiance County Senior Center Hot Shot Vehicle Purchase. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.

 

The Commissioners held the First Public Hearing - Defiance County FY 2012 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program FY 2012 Home Investment Partnerships Program Ohio Housing Trust Fund (OHTF). The purpose of the public hearing is to provide citizens with pertinent information about the programs available and program requirements.  A broad range of activities can be funded through the programs, including: housing rehabilitation, home ownership assistance, economic development, downtown revitalization, water and sewer facilities, flood and drainage facilities, streets and sidewalks, senior centers, parks, and demolition of unsafe structures.  Projects must be designed to primarily benefit low-to-moderate income persons, aid in the prevention of slums or blight, or meet an urgent need in the community.

 

The following CDBG/HOME/OHTF programs were available to Defiance County in FY 2011.  It is anticipated similar funding to be available in FY 2012:

The Commissioners attended the Continued Final Hearing – Lick Creek Ditch Improvement Project at Defiance County EMA Building for the Joint Board of Defiance and Williams Counties. This continuation of the final hearing was to address claims for damages and compensation which have been filed pursuant to Revised Code Section 6131.17 and not previously heard by the Joint Board pursuant to Revised Code Section 6131.19. The Joint Board ruled on both claims for damages, as well as fifteen exceptions. The Hearing adjourned to Thursday, May 3, 2012 at 1:30 pm at the Defiance County EMA Building.
