DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 2007

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, February 26, 2007, at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, Lyla Gurwell, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Board discussed a request from Wayne Olsson, Director of the Defiance County Board of Elections to use the Defiance County Public Safety Services building for a polling site for Noble Township voters.  The reasons for the request include space limitation at the fire station in Noble Township and the increased number of voters in Nobles wards A and B.  The Commissioners approved the request and the site was reserved for this purpose.

 

The Commissioners met with Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Russ Herman to review pending documents. Russ discussed the pending purchase agreements between the Defiance County Board of Commissioners and the Paulding County Board of Commissioners regarding the Auglaize Sewer project.  The Commissioners will discuss this project further with Russ.

 

The Board also met with Glen Vance and Francis Shindler to discuss the need for additional equipment at the Defiance County Fairgrounds.  Glen requested assistance with the purchase of a forklift for the fairgrounds.  The Commissioners asked Mr. Vance to obtain quotes and submit them to the Board for review.

 

Defiance County Dog Warden Randy Vogel came in to discuss bringing back a intermittent employee to cover time when vacations are taken.  The Commissioners approved the request.

 

Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter met with the Board.  Warren requested the Commissioners award the 2007 Aggregate bid to all of those submitting the bids.  The material used from each supplier will be purchased based on job location.

 

Warren also discussed the schedule for the Elliott Road relocation/ reconstruction project. Warren stated the project would begin between April 30 and July 15, 2007.  The work will take place concurrently on the new westbound lanes of US 24.  Domersville Road will be closed south of US 24 from April 16 to July 4.  There will be a 2 week period where access to  US 24 will not be possible from Carpenter Road north of US 24 as the westbound lane of US 24 in the area adjacent to Carpenter Road will be built between April and July of 2007.
