DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2012

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 27, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr., and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tim reported revenue of $225,030.97 and expenses of $155,096.06 in January. January’s total sales was $217,988.32 from 22,204 cubic yards and 6,790.14 tons compared to $229,288.39 total sales from 25,431 cubic yards and 6,273.56 tons in January 2010.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations met with the Commissioners for an update. Greg reported the following repairs done in January: chained valves at Auglaize River Sewer; installed new belt on blower at Auglaize Pines; popped & inspected manholes at Christy Meadows. In January there was $60,002.62 billed out, $60,701 .00 collected and expenses of $64,502.68.

 

Larry Long and Joshua Hahn, County Commissioners Association of Ohio, met with the Commissioners to discuss legislative updates.

 

Harvey Ostrander, Fort Defiance Humane Society, met with the Commissioners to discuss the budget. The Humane Society requested a reason for the decrease in budget for 2011. The Commissioners budgeted $23,311.37 for 2011 compared to $33,257.25 for 2010. The Commissioners stated that the Humane Society is a non-mandated agency. The non-mandated agencies receive more of a decrease in the budgets than the mandated agencies. The Humane Society will have to plan for the decrease like all other non-mandated agencies. The Humane Society requested a new contract be negotiated. The Commissioners are not ready to negotiate a new contract at this time; however the Humane Society can provide a revised contract to the Commissioners, if they so choose.
