DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, MARCH 12, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, March 12, 2007, at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners awarded the New D8R - 03 Undercarriage Bid for the Defiance County Landfill to Ohio CAT, Perrysburg, OH in the amount bid by them of $73,502.18.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to update them on pending issues in the Prosecutor's office.

 

Jack Graf, Interim Director of Job & Family Services, met with the Board to update them on the operations of Job & Family Services since taking the position of Interim Director on February 21st.  Mr. Graf complimented his staff for the great job they are doing at J&FS.

 

Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Operations Director, and Dan Covington, Kohl's Regional Maintenance Assistant Manager, met with the Commissioners to discuss Kohl's sewer rate charges for the Kohl's Department Store.  The Commissioners will contact the County's Sanitation Engineer to verify if Kohl's Department Store calculations for sewer usage are correct.  Greg also submitted his monthly report on income and expenses to the Commissioners. 

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the 2007 Pavement Marking Bid Opening.  Two bids were received as follows:  Aero-Mark, Streetsboro, OH for $95,168.06 and Ogelsby Construction, Inc. Norwalk, OH for $94,376.95.  The Engineer's estimate is $96,871.40.  The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.

 

Bids were also received for the 2007 Crack Seal as follows:  DG Slurry Seal of Toledo, Inc., Holland, OH for $73,191.40 and Scodeller Construction, South Lyon, Michigan for $73,250.00.  The Engineer's estimate is $73,250.00.  The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.

 

Sheriff Westrick met with the Commissioners along with Sergeant Chris Farrington and Warren Schlatter, County Engineer.  Discussed the upcoming closure of SR 281 Bridge. The bridge will be closed April 16, 2007 for a period of 75 days for a deck replacement.
