DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, MARCH 12, 2012

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Pete Schlegel met with the Commissioners to introduce himself and inform them that he is running for State Representative of the 82nd District, which includes Defiance, Paulding and Van Wert Counties.

 

Probate/Juvenile Court Judge Strausbaugh met with the Commissioners to discuss space issues for his department. The County Administrator will look into the matter.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy reported investigating 76 calls during February, which resulted in 11 dogs taken to the shelter, 26 warnings issued and 7 citations issued. There were 2,888 miles driven during the month.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the 2012 Crack Seal bid opening. The Engineer’s estimate is $106,375.00. The following bids were received: Scodeller Construction, Inc. - $208,125.00; American Pavements, Inc. - $135,050.00; M & M Asphalt - $101,288.00; DG Slurry Seal of Toledo - $112,757.50; Hill Roadway Maintenance - $87,967.50; J & A Construction, Inc. - $103,600.00; PS Construction Fabrics, Inc. - $162,800.00. The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Tina informed the Commissioners that there will be a Saint Patrick’s Day Luncheon on Thursday, March 15th at 11:30 am at the Defiance Senior Center. The Auxiliary Garage / Bake Sale will be held April 26th and 27th from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm and April 28th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.


Kim Chandler, Defiance County Auditor’s Office, met with the Commissioners to discuss the parcel retirement process and the parcel split process.

 

The Commissioners recently received the monthly report for February from Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts. There was the following collected: $14,863.24 in legal, $19,763.47 in title, $361,988.55 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ tax and $364.50 in watercraft tax. There was $84,470.27 deposited in legal and $383,633.36 in title. There were 1,624 titles issued, 368 notation of liens, and 397 inspections.
