DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, MARCH 20, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, County Administrator, provided the Commissioners with her operations update. Laura advised that the Board of Elections needs to acquire a new postage machine. Their current machine will no longer work at the end year as it will be outdated. The Commissioners authorized the purchase of a new machine for $4,574.00. Laura also advised that a refurbished phone cabinet has been installed out at Evergreen Lane for Job & Family Services.

 

The Investment Advisory Committee met with the Commissioners to provide the 1st Quarter update. Karen advised that due to the decrease in interest rates, the credit crunch and economic instability, the investment portfolio is down a bit.

 

Tim Houck, Landfill Manager, submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill.  The sales summary total for February, 2008 was $224,599.39. The annual tons to date is 12,860.35  and the annual cubic yards are 60,214.

 

Tim also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for February 2008 is 26,889 vs. 27,354 for February 2007.  The yearly monthly tons comparison submitted for 2008 was 6,565.88 tons vs. 6,331.13 tons in February 2007.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of February was 505,747.00.

 

Tim also advised that bids will be opened on April 24, 2008 at 10:30 am in the Commissioners hearing room for the North Pump Station Upgrade.
