DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, MARCH 27, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 27, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board. Laura advised that Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, obtained three (3) quotes for painting the roofs of the Sheriff’s building, Milk House and Potato building out at Evergreen Lane Office Complex. The quotes submitted are as follows: Campbell Painting - $4,845.00, CR Hunt - $6,062.00, and Roehrig Painting - $7,120.00. The Board requested additional information on the products to be used before making a decision.

 

Laura also advised that Board that she would like to have the Department Heads take some online training that is offered by CORSA through CORSA University. A few of the topics for this training are Government, Human Resources and Safety. Laura will discuss this training with the Department Heads at their next department head meeting.

 

Laura informed the Commissioners the John Brownlee, CORSA, and Julie Rittenhouse, Public Safety, will be doing inspections of County buildings and/or property in late April.

 

Randy Vogel, Dog Warden, presented his February, 2008 update to the Commissioners. Randy advised that there were 81 complaints and 190 personal contacts in February. His office took 18 dogs to the shelter and transported 2,000 lbs of animals to the landfill. Randy also reported that Town & Country Pets will be selling dog licenses/tags all year long.

 

Steve Flickinger and Linda Maag, State Auditors, met with the Board of Commissioners and the Audit Committee in Executive Session for an Entrance Audit meeting.
