DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 7, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, updated the Commissioners on various issues pending at the Prosecutor’s office.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. Warren submitted his 2008 revenue report. March revenues are as follows: Permissive Tax of $31,942.11, Motor Vehicle/License Tax of $149,399.46, Gas Tax of $199,480.02, and Court Fines of $2,573.63.

 

Jerry Hayes, Economic Development Director, and Isaac Lee, Assistant Director, met with the Commissioners to present Enterprise Zone Agreement Amendments on Alfe Heat Treating, Anderson Cooper & Brass, Trident Division, and Steele’s 5 Acre Mill. Alfe Heat Treating is amending their original Agreement, which calls for them to create the equivalent of 19 new full-time employment opportunities, to reflect that they shall create the equivalent of 11 new full-time employment opportunities with in two years.

 

Anderson Cooper & Brass, Trident Division, is amending their original Agreement, which required improvements to existing building, purchase machinery and equipment to expand their production capacity and purchase furniture and fixture and called for an investment of $2,340,500.00 by they company. The Amendment modifies the company’s investment in the project to $1,159,000.00.

 

The assets of Steele’s 5 Acre Mill, Inc. were purchased on March 13, 2007 and were sold and transferred to 5 Acre Mill, Inc. The Enterprise Zone Agreement Amendment modifies the company’s name from Steele’s 5 Acre Mill, Inc. to 5 Acre Mill, Inc.

 

The Board of Commissioners accepted and approved all three amendments.

 

The Commissioners attended the public hearing on Otto Tile that was held at Highland Township Fire Station last night.
