DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday, April 12, 2007  at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerk, and Debra Bloomfield, Deputy Clerk.  Commissioner James Harris was absent

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Becky Wagner, Defiance County Administrator, reported that video arraignment equipment was recently installed for Judge John Rohrs, Municipal Court, City of Defiance.  Further installation is proceeding and will soon be operating in Judge Joseph Schmenk's Common Pleas Court, Defiance County Courthouse.

 

The Joint Board of Commissioners, Defiance and Williams Counties, are scheduled to meet on April 19 at Williams County Commissioners' Office, Bryan.  The Lick Creek Project will be discussed at 1:00 p.m. and the Lost Creek Project discussion will follow at 1:30 p.m.

 

Sam Schroeder, County Chair, Library Levy Committee, Marilyn Hite, Director of Defiance County Libraries, and Linda Brose, President, Board of Library Trustees, met with the Board of Commissioners concerning the proposed five (5) year .75 mill levy to be used for the operating budget in all three Defiance County Library locations - Defiance, Sherwood, and Hicksville.  The levy committee is requesting endorsement of the Defiance County Commissioners.  The Commissioners will take the recommendation under advisement and discuss at next Monday's Commissioners' session.

 

Defiance County Senior Services Director, Tina Hiler, Senior Fair Board President Pat Slattery, Fair Board member Nancy Bok, and David Bok met with Commissioners concerning Senior Citizen Day at the 2007 Defiance County Fair.  The Fair Board would like to be completely in charge of all senior activities held on Senior Citizen Day.  Federal regulations that must be followed by the County Senior Services were explained.  Ms. Hiler will check with the Area Office on Aging of NW Ohio about possibilities of providing only transportation to Defiance County seniors on Senior Day only.  The Defiance County Fair will take place August 18 - 25 at the fairgrounds located in Hicksville, Ohio.

 

Defiance County Health Commissioner Kimberly Moss, Craig Richards, Lennis Prigge, and Ron Clinger, County Health Department; Mayor Armstrong, Jeff Leonard, and John Seele, City of Defiance; and Pat Slattery, Senior Fair Board President, meet with the Board of Commissioners to discuss Senate Bill 83 (proposed) - policy on Septic Systems, and Senate Bill 385 (proposed) - related to plumbing inspection within the county.
