COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY,
APRIL 14, 2008
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. on Monday,
April 14, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court
Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also
present were Commissioner James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, County Administrator,
Cara Brown, Clerk, and Julie Voll,
Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and
signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel
requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Jack
Graf, Director of Job & Family Services, and Morris
Murray, Director of Child Support Enforcement Agency, met
with the Commissioners to discuss the Subgrant Agreements with the Ohio
Department of Job & Family Services.
The Subgrant Agreements were signed.
County Engineer Warren
Schlatter provided an update on several projects. The bridge replacement on McCavit Road (between Farmer-Mark and
Williams Center Cecil Roads) has started and that road will remain closed until
the end of this week or the beginning of next week. The culvert replacement on Stever Road (between SR 15 and Flory Road) is
complete. A bid date of May 12 has been
established for the Flory Road
bridge project (between Christy & Stever Roads), with an expected
completion date of August 30.
Director of Job
and Family Services Jack Graf gave
an update. As of last week, there are 37
children in foster care, with year-to-date foster care expenses totaling
$132,347.06. The number of families
receiving food stamps for the month of March was 1354 with a total cost of
$305,897. The JFS Fraud Investigator has
recovered $21,172.71 during the first quarter of 2008 compared to calendar year
2007 collections of $32,801.02.
The Board received
the March Activity Report from Clerk of Courts Jean
Ziegler. Jean reported
collecting legal fees of $17,635.93 and title fees of $3,187.88. The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund
received $9,563.64. Jean also reported
deposits for the following: legal fees of $146,788.18 and title fees of
$351,206.39. The sales or use and
dealers tax collected was $335,807.38 and watercraft tax collected equaled
$758.80. The number of titles issued
were 2042, number of notation of liens 448 and number of inspections was 482.
The Joint Board of
Paulding & Defiance County Commissioners met for a public hearing on
objections to Beetree Run Ditch. The
Joint Board also met with Lee Sonnenberg, USDA Rural Development, and Ken Maag,
Poggemeyer Design Group, to discuss funding options for the Auglaize Sewer
project.
