DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 23, 2012

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Based on the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, the Board awarded the bids for 2012 Microsurfacing to DG Slurry Seal of Toledo, Inc. in the amount bid by them of $43,838.25.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tim reported during March sales of $290,866.34 from 29,578 tons and 9,220.20 cubic yards, compared to $293,351.36 from 33,379 tons and 10,115.68 cubic yards in March, 2011. March 1st through April 15th was the Great American Clean Up State Roadway Event. For Defiance County there were 126 volunteers that collected 5132 pounds of trash cleared from 80.7 miles of our roads.

 

John Bergman, Midwest Employee Benefit Consortium (MEBC), and Susan Paul, Coresource, met with the Commissioners to provide a presentation on their health insurance plan.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Courthouse project. Jerry discussed with the Commissioners the logistics of renovating the Courthouse, if that is the direction the Board chooses. The Commissioners also met Sam Switzer at the former Kmart building to see if the building is a potential option to rent if the departments need to vacate the building during renovation.

 

On Tuesday, April 24, 2012, the Commissioners will attend the Vetter Tile View/Informational Meeting at the Hicksville Village Council Chamber.
