DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 30, 2012

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 30, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update. The County is currently replacing two culverts on Flickinger Road for Delaware Township. Bostater Road should be opened Monday or Tuesday after being closed for a bridge replacement. Contractors are currently doing the following in the County: bridge replacement on Mulligans Bluff Road, Vegetation Control east of Evansport Road, patching, dura-patching, and crack sealing.

Julie Voll, Defiance County Family and Children First/Help Me Grow, was scheduled to meet with the Commissioners for an update. However another meeting of Julie’s ran late, so the update is being rescheduled.

The Commissioners met with Paulding County Commissioners to discuss consolidation of services. The two Boards entered into a Memorandum of Understanding to share the Job & Family Services Director Corey Walker (Current Paulding County JFS Director) as of May 1, 2012. Mr. Walker will be working with Defiance County JFS Director Jack Graf until Mr. Graf’s retirement on May 31, 2012. Thereafter Mr. Walker will be responsible for both Paulding and Defiance Job & Family Services Departments.

Also discussed was an MOU to have the Defiance County Wastewater Director Greg Reinhart to oversee the pump stations for Paulding County on the Auglaize River Sewer Project. This is anticipated to become effective July 1, 2012, depending on the progress of their construction.

The Commissioners attended the Four County Solid Waste District Board of Directors Meeting. This is comprised of Defiance, Paulding, Fulton, and Williams Counties. Tim Houck and other Counties’ Solid Waste Coordinators provided quarterly updates.

Also attended the Four County Joint Board Meeting; this Joint Board is comprised of Defiance, Fulton, Henry and Williams Counties. The Joint Board reappointed Roy Miller to the NW Ohio Juvenile Detention, Training & Rehabilitation District for a 5 year term effective May 1, 2012 to April 30, 2017. Also the Joint Board elected Perry Rupp as Chairman of the Joint Board. Jim Harris, Jr. was elected Vice-Chairman for the next year.
