COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2007
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the
Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville,
Ohio on Thursday, May 3, 2007. Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime and James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner,
County Administrator and Joanne
Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various
resolutions and documents for approval. The
Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed
and updated the calendar of events.
At 10:00 a.m. session resumed in the County
Commissioners' Conference Room, Defiance. Administrator Becky
Wagner presented her report to the Commissioners. Becky updated the Commissioners on the
Department Head Meeting held on May 1st. She also advised the Board
the construction of a parking lot on Biede
Street was awarded to Sines Excavating. This was
where the old hospital was located, next to the Sheriff’s Department. Work will
begin next week, weather permitting. Video arraignment is now being used in the
Municipal Court. Common Please
Court will be utilizing it soon.
The Defiance County
Humane Society will host an Open House on Sunday, May 6th from noon
until 5:00. There will be a dedication of the new outside run area at 2:00 p.m.
Everyone is welcomed to attend.
The Board entered
into a contract with Melco, Inc – Archbold,
Ohio, for the construction of the
BAT (Best Available Technology) for the Defiance County Landfill. This was in
the amount of $1,739,756.00. Alternate bid was $223,620.00. Engineering estimate for
construction is $325,300, for a total project cost of $2,288,676. This encompasses six (6) acres of land
($381,446 per acre). This is the first of fourteen phases. This phase is
estimated to last approximately18 – 24 months at the current intake of waste.
The Board also entered
into a contract with Vernon Nagel, Inc. for the installation of water and sewer
lines along Elliott Road.
Work is to be completed by October 15th.

Director – Maumee Valley Planning, and Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting
Attorney was in attendance to discuss water and sewer service for the proposed Welling
Subdivision. Also present were: Gary Welling, Jr, Sean Welling & Gary
Welling Sr. – Welling Construction, Tony Hoeffel – Hoeffel Engineering &
Surveying, Will Burns – Maumee Valley Planning. This proposed subdivision would
be located in Noble Twp., on State Route 15. It would consist of 35 housing
units, 4 commercial properties and 60 condominiums.
