COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:15
a.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz,
Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar
of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners’
Office, along with the Veterans’ Affairs Office, is working to have a Ceremony
on June 9, 2012 following the Veterans’ Parade to designate Defiance County as
a Purple Heart County. More details of this event will be forthcoming.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update. Laura
informed the Board that there are still 28 residents that need to hook up to
the Auglaize River Sewer Project. Laura
provided the following department updates:
Records Center – Rhonda Casler reported that as of April
30, the Record Center has received 1,180 records requests, received $378.16 in
revenue for copies and certification fees, 1,854 images have been scanned, 60
new boxes and/or books of records taken in and 199 boxes and/or books of
records removed.
Senior Center – Tina Hiler reported that the Senior Prom
is May 16th at the Defiance Eagles, dinner is at 4:30 pm and the
dance begins at 6:00 pm and the Old Timer’s Bike Ride is planned for June 23rd
- $20 single and $25 couple.
Child Support – Sandy Schappert provided the reports for
April, 2012: Caseload: 2,899; Collections: $584,424.00; Expenditures:
$56,436.00; Administrative Fees: $12,970.73; 15% of Cash Medical Collections:
$1,469.47. Collections year-to-date is $2,338,136.00,
which is down $79,152.00 from 2011 totals. Expenditures-to-date is $238,399.36, which is down $2,825.52 from 2011 totals.
Julie Rittenhouse,
Defiance County Public Safety Services Director, met with the Commissioners for
an update. Julie informed the Board that the County received the 19th
Year Hazardous materials Emergency Preparedness grant in the amount of
$4,800.00. This grant has a 20% match. This will be used, in part, for an
Alternative Fuels training in August. Julie also has received notice that the
County has been allocated $47,979 for FY 2012 Emergency Management Preparedness
Grant. This is the same amount that was allocated for FY 2011.
