COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of
Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the
Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.
Warren informed the Board that the patching, dura-patching
and vegetation control work has been completed. The crack sealing work and road
side grading is continuing. Weichman Road is closed
for a culvert replacement. Scott Road will be closed at various locations to
replace small culverts.
Rick Edmonds,
Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities, met with the Commissioners
to discuss the renewal of their .85 mil levy. The Board of Developmental
Disabilities requested the Commissioners to approve placing the renewal of the
.85 mil levy for six years on the November 2012 ballot. The Commissioners will
make a decision at a later date.
The Commissioners
attended the Northwest Ohio’s River Region Elected Officials’ Meeting along
with elected officials from Henry and Paulding counties. The Northwest Ohio’s
River Region is a committee whose mission is to promote assets, events and
activities in Defiance, Henry and Paulding counties – to bring visitors to the
three-county area to visit, tour, shop and stay – with a goal to increase sales
tax revenue. The Northwest Ohio’s River Region committee provided elected
officials with the past year’s advertising efforts, an update on the website
overhaul and blogging efforts, as well as results from the inaugural
photography contest. The committee also provided elected officials with results
from web activity and searches for the region and of interesting note, many
searches were for river interest and/or river activities. The committee offered
suggestions for next year and received support from the elected officials for

The Commissioners
recently received the Monthly Activity Report for April from Amy Galbraith,
Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy reported collecting $12,398.58 in legal,
$21,821.62 in title, $414,770.77 in Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax and $8,013.59
in Watercraft Tax. There was $82,035.47 deposited in legal and $419,419.20 in
title. There was 1,789 titles issued, 471 notation of
liens and 446 inspections.
