DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday, May 17, 2007 at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas Kime and James Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, Joanne Goerlitz and Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerks.   

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Becky WagnerCounty Administrator presented her weekly update to the Board. Becky reported that the Humane Shelter area is seeded and straw has been put down. There will be some repair work started on the parking spaces down from the Sheriff’s Office on Biede Street. She also informed the Board she received notification from the Department of Building and Standards the postponement for the building inspection certification was approved on May 4th.

 

Randy VogelDefiance County Dog Warden presented his statistics for last month. His office received 146 complaint calls for the month of April. There were thirty warnings and twenty-five citations issued. There were a total of twenty-eight dogs taken to the shelter. As of the end of April, there were 6,877 dog tags sold. This is up from 6,747 from the same time period last year. There have also been 72 kennel licenses sold.

 

The Board met with Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, to review space needs for various offices.

 

On Memorial Day, the Civil War Soldier on the monument at the Sherwood Cemetery will be removed during a ceremony. The war monument will be disassembled and a new base for the soldier will be built. This will take place at 12:15 p.m.
