DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, MAY 19, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 19, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. Laura Howell, Administrator, was absent.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met briefly with the Commissioners. Mr. Herman updated the Board on legal matters in the Prosecutor’s office.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. Warren advised that his bridge crews are finishing up on Beerbower Rd. The pavement should be placed tomorrow and the guardrails installed next week. The Williams County Line Rd., between Williams Center Cecil and Openlander Roads, will be closed next week for a bridge replacement. The Stever Road bridge deck replacement should begin next week and the county-wide crack sealing should begin early this week. The Mansfield Road culvert replacement should be finished this week. Also, crews have begun mowing and are currently on the West and East ends of the county.

 

Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Director, and Jan Roehrig, Wastewater Clerk, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Greg submitted his monthly income and expenses report. He advised that a float at the Augliaze Pines pump station was replaced and a pipe at the pump station has broken. He is currently working on getting that pipe fixed. The pump at the Christi Pump Station was pulled so a seal could be replaced, a new sump pump was installed and the discharge pipe was cleaned.

 

Beth Foreman, Help Me Grow Coordinator, met with the Commissioners for an update. Beth advised that the Help Me Grow office is currently serving 114 children. The Early Childhood Screenings were a big success. Eighty-three (83) children were screened in Defiance and 39 children were screened in Hicksville.

 

Chad Hall, Defiance Soil & Water, met with the Commissioners to open bids for the Hoschak Tile project.  Four bids were received and are as follows: Sines Excavating, Defiance, Ohio - $11,894.70; Duerk Construction, Defiance, Ohio - $16,671.00; J & M Excavating, Inc., Cloverdale, Ohio - $14,223.60; and Sand Ridge Excavating, Cloverdale, Ohio - $13,385.11. The Board took the bids under advisement and upon the recommendation of Chad Hall, Soil & Water Technician, said bid will be awarded at a later date.

 

The Board of Commissioners also received a Petition for Construction of a Ditch Improvement on the Lick Creek and Little Lick Creek. A Joint Board of Commissioners meeting between Defiance and Williams Counties will be scheduled at a later date to review the Petition.
