DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 24, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the SFY 2013 Family Foster Care Placement and Residential Treatment Services for Youth Contract between the Defiance County Department of Job and Family Services and Ohio Teaching Family Association.

 

The Board of County Commissioners received written notification from Robert Bailey III, Defiance County Treasurer, of his resignation as the Defiance County Treasurer effective June 10, 2012 at 11:59 p.m. Per Ohio Revised Code 305.02 (F), the Board appointed Vickie S. Myers to the position of Defiance County Treasurer, effective at 12:00 a.m. on June 11, 2012 and shall expire once the officer appointed by the central committee qualifies and takes the office.

 

Kevin Hancock, Defiance County Ditch Maintenance Supervisor, met with the Commissioners to review the 2013 Ditch Inspection Assessments.

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners for an update. Greg reported the following repairs being made: calibrated the meters on pump stations 1 & 4 on the Auglaize River Sewer; worked on the chemical pump for the express sewer. Greg reported that during the month of April there was $59,062.744 billed out, $56,423.45 collected and $38,846.74 in expenses.

 

Niki Warncke, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners to review the FY 2012 Formula Projects. For the FY 2012 CDBG Formula Program Defiance County will receive $72,000.00, of which $10,800.00 will be utilized for administration and $3,600.00 for Fair Housing. The balance of $57,600.00 is available for the Commissioners to allocate to previously submitted projects. This is a loss of 15.3% in CDBG funding from FY 2011. The guidelines allow for up to 4 total projects.

 

There were 5 projects submitted for the Commissioners’ consideration: Tiffin Township - Installing 15" drainage tile for surface water issues in Evansport; 1500 LF, 3 catch basins – Cost: $17,500.00 – Amount Requested - $17,500.00; Defiance County Airport – ADA Restrooms – Cost: $50,956.00 – Amount Requested - $37,600.00; Village of Hicksville - 500 LF of 8" pipe, 2 manholes; Oak Park Addition – Cost: $127,900.00 – Amount Requested - $20,000.00; Defiance County Senior Services – Purchase new Hot Shot vehicle – Cost: $34,000.00 – Amount Requested - $26,000.00; Defiance Township - PHASE 2: Indian Bridge Lane Street Improvements - pave 3 boulevard crossovers, currently stone – Cost: $21,000.00 – Amount Requested $15,800.00. The Commissioners decided to apply the grant funds to Tiffin Township, Defiance County Airport, and Village of Hicksville. The amount of money to each entity will be finalized later. The other two entities that applied had projects funded last year.

 

On Friday, the Commissioners are attending the Welcome Home Parade for Captain Christopher Rosebrock.

 

There will be no session on Monday, May 28, 2012. All County Offices are closed in observance of Memorial Day.
