MONDAY, JUNE 2, 2008

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on legal matters in the Prosecutor’s office.

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

Kevin Hancock, Ditch Maintenance Administrator, met with the Commissioners to go over the Defiance County Inspection Assessment Report for 2009 Assessments.  Kevin also advised that he has met with Ditch Maintenance in DeKalb County, IN to discuss the Gordon Creek project. When the Gordon Creek project was done, landowners in DeKalb County were not brought into the project; however, they are on the upper end of the ditch and receive benefits from the project and should be helping to pay for the maintenance of the ditch. A public hearing with the landowners will be set at a later date to discuss bringing DeKalb County residents into the schedule of benefits and assessments.

Niki Warncke, Maumee Valley Planning Organization Senior Planner, and Dennis Miller, Maumee Valley Planning Executive Director, met with the Commissioners to go over the submitted requests. A public hearing will be scheduled at a later date to award the projects.

Sheila Wilder-Ward, Concerned Citizen, met with the Commissioners to express her concern with being bitten repeatedly by the same dog. Ms. Wilder-Ward would like to see dogs euthanized after the first bite. Randy Vogel, Dog Warden, and Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, informed Ms. Wilder-Ward that the Commissioners and the Dog Warden are bound by laws and cannot euthanize a dog with out a court order.
