DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 4, 2012

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved submitting to the electors of Defiance County pursuant to R.C. § 5705.19 the question of a renewal .85 mill tax levy for the purpose of community mental retardation and developmental disabilities programs and services, including Good Samaritan School, early intervention services, adult services, residential services, service coordination, and transportation, pursuant to R.C. Chpt. 5126. This was requested by the Defiance County Board of Developmental Disabilities.

 

Alicia Meyers and Craig Higbea, Defiance County Junior Fairboard, met with the Commissioners to discuss upgrading the chicken pens for the fair. They have a 4-H member that is making the cages at cost for the project. The cost is $135.00 per cage. They are going to upgrade 10 cages this year and gradually upgrade the rest in coming years. They are also going to put wheels on the bottom cage and spray the floor with a coating for the ability to clean the building. The Commissioners approved donating $2,000.00 to the project.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  Warren informed the Board that the crew is working on Krouse Road. The roadside ditch is being moved back to prepare for the widening of the road.  Warren presented the Accumulated Revenue Report for May. The 2012 Accumulated Revenue is $1,693,660.32, compared to $1,699,834.87.

 

The Joint Board of Defiance and Williams Counties met to approve the 2013 Ditch Maintenance Assessments. Kevin Hancock reviewed the ditches maintained by Defiance County. Brian Fritsch reviewed the ditches maintained by Williams County. The Joint Board approved the 2013 Ditch Maintenance Assessments for ditches maintained by both Defiance & Williams Counties.

 

Juvenile/Probate Court Judge Strausbaugh and Defiance County Clerk of Courts Amy Galbraith met with the Commissioners to discussing records storage and scanning.

 

The Joint Board of Defiance and Paulding Counties met to approve the 2013 Ditch Maintenance Assessments. Kevin Hancock reviewed the ditches maintained by Defiance County. Tony Zartman reviewed the report from Paulding County Soil & Water for the ditches maintained by Paulding County. The Joint Board approved the 2013 Ditch Maintenance Assessments for ditches maintained by both Defiance & Paulding Counties.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners to discuss the contract with Johns Manville for waste disposal.
