COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 7, 2012 in the Hicksville Village Council Room,
Hicksville, Ohio. Chairman Thomas L.
Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners signed the Notice to Proceed for Miller Brothers
Construction, Inc. for the 2012 The Bend Road Bridge Project. The contractor is
to commence work on or before July 1, 2012. The completion date is September
28, 2012. This project is the bridge on The Bend Road north of Mud Creek Road.
Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the
Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.
Commissioners Kime and Nicely attended the CCAO (County Commissioners Association of Ohio) Board of Directors Meeting. This meeting was for the CCAO Board, as well as members of CORSA (County Risk Sharing Authority) and CEBCO (County Employee Benefit Consortium of Ohio) to review the strategic plan initiative of CCAO and its related organizations, including CORSA and CEBCO. The CCAO/OSWODO (Organization of Solid Waste Districts of Ohio) Solid Waste Legislative Platform was also reviewed. The CCAO/OSWDO committee developed a new legislative platform to be included in any revision to Ohio's solid waste law. This platform was developed with the intention to guide Ohio solid waste districts for the next twenty years into the future.
All three Commissioners and Laura will be attending the CCAO Summer Seminar on Friday. Topics to be discussed are: Preparing for Depositions & Testifying in Court; CCAO’s Proposed Permissive Changes To County Government: What Are They? What Others Are Saying?; Ohio’s Solid Waste Law: Revisiting HB 592; Shared Services in County Government; Workforce Transition-A State and Local Partnership; Health Transformation at the State and Local Level.
On Saturday, the Commissioners will attend the Ceremony to designate Defiance County as a Purple Heart Community. Defiance County is the second County in the State of Ohio to designate the County as a Purple Heart Community. The Ceremony will follow the Veterans’ Parade that begins at Triangle Park at 10:00 am.
