COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, JUNE 16, 2011
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 16, 2011 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime
called the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicley and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update. Laura provided updates from various
departments and projects. Laura provided
the following department updates:
Environmental Services: The
Barb Breckler Annual Maumee River Shoreline Sweep on
Saturday, June 19th from 8:00 am until 12:00 pm.
Child Support: Sandy
Schappert reported for the month of May: $597,639.00 in collections, $50,826.41
in expenditures, and a caseload of 3,045.
Workforce Development: The Defiance County Workforce Development Resource Room had the
following usage: March: 820 sign-in citizens and 354 steps (The steps counts
are people that are required to job search from food stamps or cash
assistance), April: 723 sign-in citizens and 318 steps; May: 755 sign-in
citizens and 378 steps. Bev Hohenberger,
Ohio Department of Development submitted a report that contained the following:
In Defiance County, she made the following contacts from January 1 through June
15, 2011: Attraction 0, Expansion/Retention 26, Follow up 42, Layoff aversion
2, Networking 83 and Training 0 = 153. Total Amounts for Fulton, Henry,
Williams and Lucas Counties combined include: Attraction 0, Expansion/Retention
52, Follow up 53, Layoff aversion 0, Networking 73 and Training 0 = 180.
Marlene Goodwin,
Defiance County Auditor, met with the Commissioners to discuss parking.
Robert Bailey,
III, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to review the
proposals received for the various purposes bond anticipation note.
The Commissioners
recently received the monthly report from Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog
Warden. Randy reported investigating 151
calls resulting in 27 dogs taken to the shelter, 22 warnings issued, and 32
citations issued. Total miles driven for
the month was 2,274. Total Municipal
Court Fines received was $632.00. Year
to date dog tag sales is $82,070.00 compared to $78,008.00 for 2010.
The Commissioners’
Office recently received the monthly activity report from Amy Galbraith,
Defiance County Clerk of Courts. Amy
reported collecting $10,162.51 in legal and $19,750.18 in title. There were deposits of $73,342.94 in legal
and $370,087.21 in title. There was
$317,600.89 collected in sales or use and dealers’ tax and $3,951.69 collected
in watercraft tax. There were 1,976
titles issued, 457 notation of liens and 460 inspections.
Due to office relocations
to the renovated Defiance County Annex the following Defiance County office
closures will take place:
The Defiance
County Recorder’s Office will be closed on Wednesday, June 22 and Thursday,
June 23. The office will re-open at its
new location on the first floor of the Defiance County Annex, 500 Second
Street, on Friday, June 24. It is
recommended that all customers call the Recorder’s Office (419-782-4741) to
verify the office is open prior to coming in.
The Defiance
County Auditor’s Office and Treasurer’s Office will be closed beginning at noon
on Thursday, June 23 and all day on Friday, June 24. The Defiance County Auditor’s Office will
re-open at its new location on the second floor of the Defiance County Annex on
Monday, June 27. The Defiance County
Treasurer’s Office will re-open at its new location in the basement of the
Defiance County Annex on Monday, June 27.
Also there will be
no deed transfers from Wednesday, June 22 through Friday, June 24.
