DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JUNE 19, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. Laura Howell, Administrator, was absent.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Dennis Miller, Maumee Valley Planning Organization Director, Kent Miller, Hicksville Village Administrator, and Cheryle Culler, Bonar Group, met with the Commissioners to open bids for the Bryan Street Area Water Main Improvement Project in Hicksville. The Engineer’s estimate for this project is $110,600.00. Four bids were received and are as follows: H&K Construction Services, Sidney, OH - $103,665.00; All Purpose Contracting, Delphos, OH - $149,363.75; Vernon Nagel, Napoleon, OH - $119,365.00; and Chuck Samples, General Contractor, Celina, OH - $113,665.22. The bids were taken under advisement and upon the recommendation from the project engineer and the Village of Hicksville, said bid will be awarded at a later date.

 

The Commissioners toured the landfill to view the new BAT construction cell with Tim Houck, Landfill Manager.

 

Jerry Hayes, Economic Development Director, Gary Keys and Hans Rosebrock, First Energy Corp., Charles Corbitt, AEP Ohio, John Seele, City Finance Director, Dave Williams, City Law Director, and Larry Plummer, Landowner, met with the Commissioners to discuss additional power supplies to the enterprise industrial park, CSX-Megasite and other potential industrial sites. Both AEP and First Energy advised that no determination in costs for extending power to these areas can be determined until there is a customer who has a definite need and knows the amount of power needed.
