COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell,
Administrator, and Lanie Miller,
Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar
of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Information was provided to the Commissioners
from the E911 Board regarding 2011 statistics.
In 2011, the 9-1-1 center received a total of 12,831 calls with 8,210
from a cellular device and 45 from a Voice Over
Internet Protocol. The percentage of
Defiance County communications 9-1-1 calls that are cellular was 64% in 2011.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update. Laura
provided the following update:
Child
Support – Sandy Schappert
provided the reports for May, 2012: Caseload of 2,899 – a decrease from May 2011
of 146 cases; Collections for May $597,639; Expenditures for May $48,072.87. Collections year-to-date $3,014,927; expenditures year-to-date
$286,472.23. Sandy Schappert reported that approximately 150
emancipations were conducted between April and June.
Randy Vogel,
Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy
reported that during the month of May there were 125 calls investigated that
resulted in 18 dogs taken to the shelter, 37 warnings and 27 citations issued.
There was 3,586 miles driven. There was $917.50 received in Municipal Court
Fines. Year to date dog tag sales are down from 2011 by
$3,308.00.
Tina Hiler,
Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an
update. Tina reported the following upcoming Auxiliary events: Old Timer's Bike
Ride - Saturday, June 23, 2012, includes raffle for a grill, 2 gravity chairs
and a Jacobs meat certificate; Fireworks Hot Dog Sales- Tuesday, July 3, 2012 -
selling hot dogs and pop before the fireworks.
Tina also reported that the Senior Center will be having a bake sale on
July 2nd and 3rd starting at 9:00 a.m.
