DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 23, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. Laura Howell, Administrator, was absent.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. Warren advised that the beams were set on the Williams County Line Road last week and it will be paved as soon as materials and crews are available. He also advised that the Stever Rd. bridge deck reconstruction is going well. He estimates that the road will be open around the end of July.

 

Randy Vogel, Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for his update. Randy submitted his May 2008 report. In May, the Dog Warden’s office received 148 complaints, made 327 personal contacts and issued 41 citations. Forty-four dogs were taken to the shelter and 1,040 pounds of animals were taken to the landfill.

 

Karen Tubbs, Treasurer, and Marlene Goodwin, Auditor, met with the Commissioners for a bond anticipation note. These notes were taken out to finance the Lost Creek and Highland Ditch construction improvements. Funds collected from assessments will be used to pay these notes off.

 

Paulding County Commissioners met with Defiance County Commissioners to approve the 2009 Ditch assessments on the Joint Ditches. These assessments will be added to the tax roll for 2009.

 

The Commissioners will be attending the 2008 Public Officials Tour hosted by the Defiance Soil & Water Conservation District on Tuesday, June 24th.
