COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday,
June 26, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court
Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also
present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura
Howell, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents,
approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of
events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her
update to the Board. Laura advised that Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor,
has looked into purchasing a bicycle rack for County employees who wish to
begin riding their bikes to work as fuel costs continue to rise. The
Commissioners would also like to remind the citizens that the County auctions
off unneeded or outdated items through the internet auction site GovDeals.com.
Tim Houck, Landfill
Manager, submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for
the Landfill. The sales summary total
for May 2008 was $291,521.25. The annual tons total to date is 36,636.70 and
the annual cubic yards are 170,618.
Tim also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for May 2008
is 36,685 vs. 45,916 for this same time in 2007. The yearly monthly tons comparison submitted
for May 2008 was 8324.20 tons vs. 11,877.69 tons in May 2007. Leachate monthly gallon total for the month
of May was 325,462.00.
The Commissioners held Study Session on
Wednesday morning and met with Jerry Overmier.
Jerry provided the Commissioners with information and cost estimates on the
facilities study.
The Commissioners of Defiance,
Fulton, Henry and Williams Counties
met on Wednesday, June 25th, to receive an update on the Maumee
Valley Guidance.
Also on June 25th, the Joint
Board of Commissioners of Defiance and Williams Counties
met to set a date and time for the first view and hearing. The view has been
scheduled for Thursday, July 17, 2008 at 2:00 pm. The view will begin where
Lick Creek crosses under St. Rt. 6, between Williams County Road 13 and St. Rt.
15/127 in Pulaski
Township, and at every
road crossing down to its terminus. Little Lick will be viewed beginning at its
junction with Lick Creek back upstream to where it terminates at the
Defiance-Williams County line. The first hearing is scheduled for Monday,
August 11, 2008 at 1:15 p.m. at the Ney Legion on The Bend Road.
