DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JUNE 30, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on legal matters in the Prosecutor’s office.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  Warren advised that Defiance-Williams County Line Rd., between Openlander and Behnfeldt Roads, is now reopened. Crews will be moving to the Hicksville-Spencerville Road soon to begin that project.

 

The Commissioners advised Warren that several farmers had concerns with the closure of Jewell Rd. at US 24 and the ability to get to the elevator. Warren advised that at a minimum, either Independence Rd. or Jewell Rd. will be opened for traffic to get into Jewell from US 24. For those concerned over which route is open, the Ohio Department of Transportation can be contacted at 419-222-9055. Their office should be able to tell you which route is open to traffic.

 

State Auditors Steve Flickinger, Senior Audit Manager, Linda Maag, Audit Manager, and Brian Dicken, Auditor, met with the Commissioners, Elected Officials and County personnel for the County’s exit conference for 2007.

 

Mike Williams, Veterans Affairs Director, met with the Commissioners to provide a 2007 Activity report update. Mike advised that in 2007, the Veteran’s office received 404 applications for assistance and 18,360 client contact were made. Three hundred fifty-four (354) veterans were transported to DVA medical facilities for a combined cost of $22,268.00.
