DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 2, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, July 2, 2007 at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and James Harris, Jr., and Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk.   

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Jane Tadsen, Defiance County Recorder, reported recording 198 Deeds, 255 Mortgages, 172 Releases,  and 4 Power of Attorneys.  The total of the month of June, 2007 was $28,980.50 of which $14,305.50 went toward the Housing Trust Fund and $14,675.00 went toward the General Fund.

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on pending issues at the Prosecutor's office.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, and Dick Sargeant met with the Commissioners for discussion on landfill waste stream. 

 

The Commissioners conducted a Second Public Hearing for the FY 2007 Community Development Block Grant Formula Program to give citizens adequate opportunity to review and comment on the proposed CDBG activities prior to the submittal of the application to the Ohio Department of Development.  Defiance County is eligible for $79,000 of Fiscal Year 2007 CDBG Formula Allocation Program funding provided the County meets applicable program requirements.  Lisa Karcher of Maumee Valley Planning Organization was present at the hearing to review the CDBG activities Defiance County is considering for the Fiscal Year 2007 CDBG Formula Allocation Program.  At the hearing, the Commissioners approved the following CDBG activities for funding:  Village of Hicksville - Water Facility Improvements for $18,000;  Village of Sherwood - Park and Recreation Facilities for $10,000; Farmer Township - Street Improvements for $20,000; Village of Ney - Sewer Facility Improvements for $16,000; County-Wide - Fair Housing for $3,200 and County-Wide - Administration for $11,800.

 

Representatives from Toledo Edison met with the Commissioners along with Jerry Hayes and Isaac Lee of the Economic Development office to discuss rates and supplying electric to a potential business coming into Defiance County.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, came in for his weekly update with the Commissioners.  Warren submitted his monthly 2007 Accumulated Revenue Report to the Board.  During the meeting, the Commissioners approved to modify the existing abutment walls on Bostater Road, .20 miles west of Mulligans Bluff Rd. in preparation of contracted pre-cast beam placement and the Commissioners authorized the County Engineer to proceed with the Project by Force Account.  The estimated cost of the Project is $36,288.43.
