COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio
on Thursday, July 3, 2008. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.
Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator
and Cara Brown, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents,
approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of
events and discussed upcoming meetings.
A Hicksville area landowner met with the Commissioners
during General Session to discuss wind energy. The Board advised that they
would look into this alternative form of energy and get back with the landowner
on their findings.
Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly
update to the Board. Laura updated the Commissioners on several maintenance
matters. Also, Dilly Door will begin working on the main barn at Auglaize Village next week, weather permitting.
Laura
informed the Commissioners that Robert Loversidge and David Vottero from
Schooley Caldwell, Inc. will be in town on July 17th to do a more
thorough review of the Courthouse Annex/old Sheriff’s house and jail. They have
estimated a final report will be submitted on August 15th.
Laura also
informed the Board that Senior Day at the Defiance County Fair will be on
August 19th. There are two new programs planned: a fashion show of
4-H sewing projects and a Horseshoe competition with prizes.
The Commissioners
traveled to Henry
County for a Joint Board
of Commissioners meeting with Henry County Commissioners to approve 2009 ditch
assessments on the joint ditch projects. Ditches that will have maintenance
assessments in 2009 are as follows: Cordes, Ridgeville, Prairie Creek,
Adams-Maddock, Arnos, Bauer, Eberle, Elliott, Fullmer, Groll, Grossman, Mansfield, Peck and
Wiemken.
