DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 7, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 7, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present was Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Julie Voll, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Karen Tubbs, Treasurer, met with the Commissioners to provide the 2nd Quarter investment update. Karen stated that the market sentiment has changed during the quarter along with increased inflationary pressure. This quarter has been volatile with the 2 year treasury starting the quarter at 1.59%, rising to 3.04% in mid-June and currently being 2.5%.

 

Warren Schlatter, Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. Warren advised that the Defiance-Williams County Line Road bridge is completely finished. Crews will begin working on the Hicksville-Spencerville Road project this week. Crews will then move onto Ayersville Avenue to work on the bridge at Edgewood Drive and onto Harris Rd, north of Steinmaier, to move a ditch back. Ayersville Avenue will be closed for approximately 4-5 weeks during the bridge work.

 

Stever Road bridge is scheduled to be poured tomorrow, weather permitting and work is scheduled to begin on the Flory Road bridge, between Stever and Christy, in the next few weeks. Once this work begins, this portion of Flory will be closed.

 

The Commissioners also took time to go view the Beetree Run Ditch improvement project.
