The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday,
July 10, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court
Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also
present was Commissioner James E. Harris, Jr., Laura
Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne
Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. Commissioner Nicely was absent.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents,
approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of
events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Board
received the June 2008 Activity Report from Jean
Ziegler, Clerk of Courts. Jean reported collecting Legal fees
of $15,832.63 and Title fees of $3,753.64. the Certificate of Title
Administrative Fund is at $11,260.93. Jean also reported deposits for the
following: Legal fees of $422,867.01 and Title fees of $390,735.95. The Sales
or Use and Dealers Tax collected was $361,444.89 and Watercraft Tax collected
was $4,651.22. The number of Titles issued was 2,277, number of Notation of
Liens was 610 and the number of inspections was 380.
Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly
update to the Board. Laura advised that the Maintenance Department is obtaining
quotes for repairs to the parking lot between the Courthouse and the Courthouse
Annex.
Laura also
advised that she and Rhonda Casler, Records Archivist, met with State Archivist
Jelain Chubb and Barb Barker of the Representative Latta’s office to discuss
needed support for the Preserving American Historical Records Act (PAHRA).
PAHRA would set aside $50 million federal dollars to aid in preserving, boxing,
digitizing, humidity control for local governments through grants. Ohio is currently #9 on the list which could mean that Ohio would receive
approximately $1.6 million if this Act passes.
