DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 12, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update.  Laura provided the following department and project updates:

            Defiance County Department of Job and Family Services provided assistance to Paulding County Department of Job and Family Services during the time period last week that Paulding was without power. Approximately five Paulding county individuals made contact with DCDJFS for assistance with applications or for spend down purposes.  Paulding posted signage to contact DCDJFS. The same offer was made from DCDJFS to Putnam County although no individuals from Putnam came to Defiance.

Defiance County Child Support agency reported that payments were accepted from neighboring counties that were affected by the power outages. The Defiance CSEA also has received enhancements to the web-portal for payment information. Payment information now can be accessed by CSEA Case Managers to they can better assist clients with understanding information about an individual’s case. Clients then can re-set their own password.

213 residents have hooked up to the Auglaize River Sewer System.

 

Ron Cereghin, Defiance County Maintenance Supervisor, met with the Commissioners to review the report on the exterior facilities maintenance.

 

Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, met with the Commissioners for a 6 month budget review.

 

The Commissioners received notice that the OSU Extension and the Ohio Agricultural Research and Development Center (OARDC) are sponsoring a free program titled “Corn Silage and Forages: 2012 Drought Management and Economics” from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm on August 10, 2012 at the OSU Extension Defiance County 06879 Evansport Road. Featured topics include: Harvest Management for Drought Corn and Forages, Feeding Drought Stressed Forages to Livestock: Health/Nutrition, Pricing Drought Stress Corn for Corn Silage. The featured speakers are Dr. Bill Weiss, Ohio State University, OARDC, Department of Animal Science, Professor & Extension Specialist and Dianne Shoemaker, Ohio State University Extension, Field Specialist, Dairy Production Economics.
