DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, JULY 14, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, July 14,  in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk and Julie Voll, Deputy Clerk.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely was absent.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on legal matters in the Prosecutor’s office.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.  Warren updated the Commissioners on current road projects.   Warren noted that Hicksville-Spencerville between Casebeer-Miller Road and Ohio-Indiana State Line Road is being reconstructed starting July 14, 2008 and will last until approximately September 30, 2008.  The work is being performed by Brooks Construction.  Also, Stever Road south of Evansport Road is closed for Bridge Deck Replacement and Warren noted that the project is progressing well.   Warren presented to the Board pictures of log jams for the Lick Creek and Little Lick Creek Ditch Improvement Project. The Commissioners will meet with the Williams County Commissioners on Thursday, July 17th at 2:00 p.m. for viewing of the project.  The First Hearing on the project is scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2008 at 1:15 p.m. at the Ney Legion Hall, 350 The Bend Road, Ney, OH. 

 

Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, met with the Board for approval on Bond Anticipation Notes.  During the meeting, the Commissioners approved the issuance of Bond Anticipation Notes for the following:  $200,000 for County Road and Bridge Repair; $1,002,080 for acquiring and improving a building for County use; $13,180 for constructing the Dowe Ditch Improvement Project; $26,550 for constructing the Carryall Tile Improvement Project; $38,190 for constructing the Peterson Ditch Improvement Project and $60,000 for construction of the Beetree Run Ditch Improvement Project. 

 

Julie Rittenhouse, Public Safety Coordinator, met with the Commissioners to discuss The County Commissioners Association (CCAO) of Workers’ Compensation Group Rating Plan.  The Plan is intended to achieve lower workers’ compensation rates for the County and result in the establishment of safer working conditions and environments.  By Defiance County being a member of this group, the County’s savings for next year’s premiums will be approximately $47,152.00.

 

The Commissioners received an update from Jane Tadsen, Defiance County Recorder.  Jane reported to the Commissioners that during the month of June, 2008, there were 204 Deeds, 253 Mortgages, 234 Releases, 4 Leases, 10 Power of Attorneys and 1 Plat recorded.  The total of the month of June, 2008 was $33,074.10 of which $16,299.30 went toward the Housing Trust Fund and $16,774.80 went toward General Fund.

 

 

 

 

B.J. Fisher of FLS Marketing met with the Commissioners for discussion on promoting our region.  Mr. Fisher will compile different options to market and create an awareness of our region, and will present to the Commissioners at a later date when completed.
