DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JULY 17, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk and Julie Voll, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, travel requests, reviewed agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, presented her report to the Commissioners.  Laura reported that she met with FrontPath CEO Susan Szymanski and Regional Sales Representatives Bruce Mullkoff and Barb Sandusky to review services that are offered by FrontPath, updated the Commissioners on Defiance City’s Combined Sewer Overflow( CSO) Project and noted that the City Planning Commission approved a Petition to vacate a public alley.  The Commissioners Petitioned the City to vacate the public alley between First and Second Streets behind the County owned Key Bank property at 414 Second Street.  During the meeting the Commissioners approved C.R. Hunt, Inc. to epoxy and apply a urethane topcoat to the Courthouse ramp.  Also approved Tressler Plumbing to install water service into the Animal Shelter and authorized replacement of exterior signs on downtown County buildings.     

 

Bob Loversidge and David Vottero, Schooley Caldwell & Associates, met with the Commissioners to tour the Annex building and discuss recommendations on how to best utilize the space at the Annex building.  No decisions were made.

 

Rand Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his June 2008 report to the Commissioners. Randy reported that he received 156 complaints 45 dogs were taken to the shelter and there were 31 citations issued.  Randy also transported 1,440 pounds of animals to the Landfill and drove 2,738 miles for the month of June.

 

Tim Houck along with James Hamilton of the Mannik and Smith Group, Inc. and Dick Sargeant of Eastman & Smith, Ltd. updated the Commissioners on construction projects at the Defiance County Landfill.  Projects are on schedule. 

 

The Joint Boards of Commissioners of Defiance and Williams Counties met to view the Lick Creek and Little Creek Ditch Improvement Project.   The First Hearing on the project is scheduled for Monday, August 11, 2008 at 1:15 p.m. at the Ney Legion Hall, 350 The Bend Road, Ney, Ohio.
