DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2008
The Board of Defiance County
Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday,
July 24, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at
500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners
James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Joanne
Goerlitz, Acting Clerk and Julie Voll, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in
General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and
documents, travel requests, reviewed agenda items and the calendar of events
and discussed upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator,
met with the Commissioners for her weekly update. Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Department
Supervisor, joined the meeting to discuss maintenance projects. During the meeting, the Commissioners
approved the roof at the Maintenance
Service Building
to be insulated. Nye Roofing and
Insulation was approved to do the project at a cost of $6,640.00. The Commissioners also approved Nye Roofing
and Insulation to repair the Courthouse roof at a cost of $8,506.00.
The Commissioners held a
Public Hearing to amend the Defiance County Subdivision Regulations. The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
originally adopted the Defiance County Subdivision Regulations on October 7, 1996. The Defiance County Planning Commission has
found it necessary to amend Section 330, No Plat Approval Subdivision Procedures
and Requirements of the Defiance County Subdivision Regulations to incorporate
large lot subdivision provisions authorized under the Ohio Revised Code,
Section 711.113. During the Public
Hearing, the Commissioners approved amending the Defiance County Subdivision
Regulations.
Kent
Appelhauns, Business Manager of LifeStar Ambulance & Ambulette Service, Sheriff
Westrick, Herb Retcher, President of the Township Association, Jim Kile,
Richland Township Trustee, Rick Speiser, Delaware Township Trustee and Darrel
Rock, Sherwood Fire Department, met with the Commissioners to discuss providing
EMS services to the north-western part of Defiance
County (Milford,
Farmer and Washington
Townships). Mr. Appelhauns presented to the Board a cost
analysis and revenue projections of providing EMS services to the three (3)
Townships and noted that it would not be feasible to provide EMS
services due to a low volume of transports in the north-western part of the
County.
