DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JULY 26, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas Kime and James Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, Joanne Goerlitz, Acting Clerk.       

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, and discussed upcoming meetings and events.

 

During General Session,  the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, upon the recommendation of Lisa Karcher, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, awarded the Defiance Senior Center Meal Delivery Vehicle Bid to Mark Moats Ford, Inc. in the amount of $28,787.00. 

 

Also during Session, the Commissioners approved the hiring of Jack Graf as Director of the Defiance County Job and Family Services effective July 26, 2007.  Mr. Graf is currently the Interim Director.

 

The Commissioners were notified by the Area Office on Aging of Northwestern Ohio, Inc. (AOoA) that Defiance County Senior Services has been awarded $274,272.88 in funds administered by the AOoA for the Program Year January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2007.  During Session, the Commissioners approved the Notification of Grant Award.

           

The Commissioners received Bid Proposals for the Evergreen Lane Office Complex Reroof and the Defiance County Airport Building #4 and $5 Roof Repairs Projects.  Jerry Overmier of Beilharz Architects, Inc. was present for the Bid Opening.  The following Bids were received:

The Commissioners took the bids under advisement for further consideration and an award will be made at a later date.

 

Becky Wagner, County Administrator, met with the Commissioners and submitted her weekly report to the Board.  Becky updated the Commissioners on projects that the Maintenance Department is currently working on.  Becky also reported that she attended the Volunteer Connection of Northwest Ohio Breakfast.  The Volunteer Connection has received grant funds from the Points of Light Foundation to work on three projects:  The first project will be to reinvigorate the United Way’s Day of “Caring/Lend a Hand Day” on September 14.  The second project is a “Make A Difference Day” scheduled for October 27 where sporting goods are collected, refurbished and distributed at no cost to kids wishing to participate in any of the area’s sports programs and the third project will be determined in the Spring of 2008.  Becky noted that the United Way of Defiance County will be sponsoring a Defiance County Back to School Supplies Drive to provide needy Defiance County students with the proper school supplies.  Last year there were 129 children countywide who received brand new school supplies and a backpack to put them in.  The United Way of Defiance County can be contacted at 419-782-3510 for additional information on the Drive.

 

Tim Houck, Landfill Director, submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill.  The sales summary total for June is $370,344.48.  The annual tons total to date is 55,696.80 and the total annual cubic yards are 231,388.

 

Tim also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for 2007 is 49,207 vs. 35,026 for this same time in 2006.  The yearly/monthly tons comparison submitted for 2007 was 10,496.84 tons vs. 11,941.13 tons in 2006.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of June is 208,677.

 

Ken Keller, First Insurance & Investments, was in to review the six month report for the Health Insurance.

 

The Commissioners attended the Defiance County Planning Commission Meeting at the Defiance County East Complex.  After the meeting, the Commissioners met with the Auglaize County Commissioners at the Economic Development Office to discuss Community Improvement Corporation.
