COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2012 in the Hicksville Village Council Room,
Hicksville, Ohio. Chairman Thomas L.
Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Lambert,
Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the
Board to provide her weekly update with various department and project updates.
Laura provided the Commissioners with an
update on the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Prescription Drug
Discount Card Program for four years. Since Defiance County began the program,
8,471 Defiance County residents have filled 10,669 prescriptions through the
program. The retail submitted price over the past four years total $689,956.15
with price savings of $152,475.76 for Defiance County residents. The percentage
price savings per prescription is 22.10%. The average price savings per
prescription is $9.10. Defiance County is one of 1,400 county governments
across the country that participates in the NACo Prescription Discount Card
Program. The nationwide program has saved residents $483 million on 38.4
million prescriptions since the program’s inception.
The Commissioners met with the City of
Defiance Board of Control to discuss the City’s request to use property owned
by the County for the City’s Downtown Streetscape Project. The Commissioners
stated they are willing to allow the City to use the land, but proposed a swap
of various properties owned by each entity that is being primarily used by the
other entity. The Commissioners asked the Board of Control to take the proposal
to City Council.
