The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

Two public hearings were held concerning the Defiance County Landfill’s proposal to increase its volume-discount rate for fiberglass waste.  The new rate will be a flat 38% discount on all fiberglass waste that is the primary material of the producer of the waste.  To be eligible for the rate reduction an exclusive agreement must be entered into by the producer of the fiberglass waste and the Defiance County landfill.  Among other things, the agreement requires that all solid waste generated must be taken to the Defiance County landfill.

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the bid opening for the 2012 Krouse Road Paving. The Engineer’s estimate is Proposal A Option 1 $239,540.00, Proposal A Option 2 $239,540.00, Proposal B $361,000.00. The following bids were received: Gerken Paving, Inc. Proposal A Option 1 $228,931.80, Proposal B $332,224.50; RG Zachrich Proposal A Option 2 $224,141.00.  The Commissioners took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.

Warren informed the Board that roadside grading work is being performed on Watson Road between Dohoney and Fullmer Road and on Bannerschool Road between St. Rt. 66 and Carpenter Road.  Warren stated that the Chip Seal contractor will start work this week.
