COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, AUGUST 13, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L.
Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, and Lanie Lambert,
Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Two public hearings
were held concerning the Defiance County Landfill’s
proposal to increase its volume-discount rate for fiberglass waste. The new rate will be a flat 38% discount on
all fiberglass waste that is the primary material of the producer of the
waste. To be eligible for the rate
reduction an exclusive agreement must be entered into by the producer of the
fiberglass waste and the Defiance County landfill. Among other things, the agreement requires
that all solid waste generated must be taken to the Defiance County landfill.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for the bid opening for
the 2012 Krouse Road Paving. The Engineer’s
estimate is Proposal A Option 1 $239,540.00, Proposal A Option 2 $239,540.00,
Proposal B $361,000.00. The following bids were received: Gerken Paving, Inc.
Proposal A Option 1 $228,931.80, Proposal B $332,224.50; RG Zachrich Proposal A
Option 2 $224,141.00. The Commissioners
took the bids under advisement and will award at a later date.
Warren informed
the Board that roadside grading work is being performed on Watson Road between
Dohoney and Fullmer Road and on Bannerschool Road between St. Rt. 66 and
Carpenter Road. Warren stated that the
Chip Seal contractor will start work this week.
Effective Monday,
August 20, 2012, the Defiance County Records Center, 510 Court Street, will be
open from 8:00am to 4:30pm. Lanetha Lambert will serve as Records Center
Director, a position that has not been filled since 2004. Lanetha has served as
an Administrative Deputy Clerk in the Board of Commissioners’ office since
August 17, 2009. The primary objective of the Director is to coordinate,
oversee and direct the day-to-day work activities, operations and personnel and
to ensure the receipt, preservation, maintenance, storage and retrieval of records
and documents.
