DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 9, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’ Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Lambert, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The third public hearing was held concerning the Defiance County Landfill’s proposal to increase its volume-discount rate for fiberglass waste.  The new rate will be a flat 38% discount on all fiberglass waste that is the primary material of the producer of the waste.  To be eligible for the rate reduction an exclusive agreement must be entered into by the producer of the fiberglass waste and the Defiance County landfill.  Among other things, the agreement requires that all solid waste generated must be taken to the Defiance County landfill.

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for an update. Randy reported that during the month of July there was 140 calls investigated, which resulted in 23 dogs taken to the shelter, 29 warnings issued and 22 citations written. There was 3,596 miles driven for the month and $779.50 received in Municipal Court fines. Year to date there has been $85,583.00 collected for dog tags, compared to $85,556.00 for 2011.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tina reported that there were 300 fed at the ice cream social with more than 400 in attendance. Senior Day at the Defiance County Fair is Tuesday, August 21st. This year’s sponsors are Defiance Eagles, Mercy Clinic and Domino’s Pizza. The schedule is:  10:00 a.m.- music with Pete Schlegel; 11:00 a.m. – 4-H fashion show; 11:30 a.m. -  Lunch; 12:30 p.m. – Bingo; 2:00 p.m. - music with Memory Lane and a Horseshoe Pitching  competition.

 

In study session on Wednesday, the Board presented the Village of Ney Mayor Tom Vance with a check for $3,500.00, a reimbursement from the FY 2010 CDBG program. Mayor Vance stated that he would like to see the money used for Village sidewalk repairs. Mayor Vance also updated the Board on the Ney Village’s intent to make improvements to the Ney Park. Mayor Vance plans to attend the August 27th Defiance County Metropolitan Parks Board meeting to ask for the Board’s assistance with the project.
