DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, AUGUST 22, 2011

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2011 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Robert Bailey III, Defiance County Treasurer met with the Commissioners for an update. 

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren reported that the Chip Seal contractor is a third of the way done with their work in the County.  Warren reported that his crew is still working on the culvert replacement on Highland Center Road north of Blanchard Road and will start work on a culvert replacement on Rosedale Road north of Arrowsmith Road.   

 

Jack Graf, Defiance County Job & Family Services Director, Emily Handley, Job Works, Bev Hohenberger, ODJFS Workforce Specialist, and Cindy Thatcher, Defiance County Job & Family Services, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Emily Handley reported there are currently 39 youth utilizing the Workforce Investment Act Youth Program.  The WIA YouthWorks Program 2011: Enrolled in Certification Programs 8, already attending and/or accepted into college 10, Work experience 17, GED/High School diploma 12, Employed 12, FutureWork 14 and Build Me Keep Me 8.  Jack reported that the Northwest Ohio Job Center sign in book had a count of 718 in June 2011 and 859 in July 2011.  Employer services such as testing and application process was utilized by Koester Metals, Johns Manville, Parker Hannifin and Defiance Metal Products.  Jack reported that in July 2011 there were 5,503 individuals on Food Stamps compared to 5,281 in July 2010.  In July, $682,247 in food stamps was disbursed.  Cindy Thatcher discussed allocations for 2012 compared to 2011.  DCJFS will receive $219,537.74 less in 2011 than was received in 2010 for public assistance.  WIA will receive $74,552.72 less in 2011 compared to 2010.
