DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, AUGUST 28, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, reviewed agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Stephen Snavely, attorney, joined session to discuss the Sherwood Open Bible Church Annexation Petition.  The annexation petition was approved by the Commissioners.

 

Laura Howell, Defiance County Administrator, met with the Commissioners for her weekly update.  Laura updated the Commissioners on maintenance projects.  The courthouse roof repairs began on August 27, 2008.  Work should be completed today.  Laura reported that Defiance City has indicated interest in their support of commercial building, plumbing and electrical inspection for Defiance County buildings that are outside City limits.  A meeting with the village mayors will take place at a later date regarding this. 

 

Greg Reinhart met with the Board to provide an update on testing the lines for leaks using a smoke machine.  He is now investigating line ownership and will be sending notification letters to the property owners requiring them to fix the leaks on their property.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Manager, met with the Board for his monthly update.  Mr. Houck submitted his monthly financial report for revenue & expenses for the Landfill to the Board.  The sales summary total for July 2008 was $262,932.72. The annual tons total to date is 8,367.01 and the annual cubic yards are 30,817.  Mr. Houck also reported the yearly/monthly cubic yards comparison for July 2008 is 30,817 vs. 50,609 for this same time in 2007.  The yearly monthly tons comparison submitted for July 2008 was 8,367.01 tons vs. 10,550.53 tons in July 2007.  Leachate monthly gallon total for the month of July was 1,014,944.
