COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, AUGUST 30, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 9:30
a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners’
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called
the meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell,
Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and
approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar
of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners authorized Warren
Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, to make application to the Ohio Public
Works Commission (OPWC) for funding from the State Capital Improvement Program
and the Local Transportation Improvement Program for road widening projects.
The following projects will be submitted to OPWC for possible funding: Hire
Road (the entire mile) – widen from 20’ to 24’ and repave; The Bend Road
(between Blosser Road and SR 15) – widen from 20’ to
22’ and repave; Banner School Road (between SR 66 and Carpenter Road) – widen
from 20’ to 24’ and repave; Watson Road (between Fullmer
Road and Highland Center Road) widen and repave; Fountain Street Road (between Openlander Road and Behnfeldt Road) widen and repave. If any of these applications are successful
in receiving funding, the work would not begin until 2014.
Matt Gilroy,
Defiance County Airport Board, met with the Commissioners to discuss upcoming
projects. Matt reported that during 2013 the Airport Restroom Project will be
done with assistance of the CDBG funding. Also, if FAA funding is available, a
portion of the runway lighting project will be completed.
Tim Houck,
Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an
update. Tim reported to date litter has been collected on 575.20 miles of
roadway in Defiance County. Tim reported sales of $303,203.98 from 32,512 cubic
yards and 9,568.32 tons in July, compared to $271,942.28 from 30,499 cubic
yards and 8,775.67 tons in 2011.
