COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 13, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 13, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Vice-Chairman Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioner James E. Harris,
Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz Clerk, and Arica Smith, Deputy
Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Board to provide her weekly
update with various department and project updates. Laura provided the
following department updates:
Child
Support Enforcement Agency: Sandy Schappert reported that August Child
Support Enforcement Agency Figures: Collections - $587,342.00; Expenditures -
$59,349.05; Caseload – 2,856. Collections year-to-date: $4,732,365.00.
Record Center: Lanie Lambert reported that effective
October 1, 2012, the Records Center plans to begin charging $0.25 copy fee per
page for the first 25 pages, $0.12 per page for the next 75 pages and $0.06 per
page thereafter plus $1.00 per certification certificate, to follow 2004 Local
Court Rules.
The Moving Ohio Forward Program deadline to apply to have a residence
demolished is October 1, 2012. If you have a residence that may qualify for the
program, please contact the City, Villages, Townships or Elected Officials for
your area to apply to demo blighted/nuisance properties.
Matt Gilroy, Defiance County Airport Board met
with the Commissioners and discussed the Deer Nuisance Lottery. He informed the
Commissioners that the Airport Board will offer the three hunters from last
year’s lottery to be able to continue to hunt on Airport property. They will
also to hold a lottery to draw three people and three alternates to hunt deer
near the Airport. The Airport Board hopes to have the lottery in early October.
The Airport Authority will be advertising the lottery as soon as the details
are finalized.
Matt Gilroy informed the Board that the
current FAA funding available for the runway lighting project is $380,000.00.
The preliminary estimates are between $335,000.00 and $360,000.00. There is a
10% local match for the FAA grant. The Airport Authority requested the
Commissioners to provide the local match. The Commissioners approved providing
the local match.
