COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2012
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2012 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L.
Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz
Clerk and Arica Smith, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer,
met with the Commissioners for an update. Warren informed the Commissioners
that all chip seal work should be done by the end of Monday. Microsurfacing
work should be done by next week. The Bend Road Bridge should be completed by
the end of the month, weather permitting. The deck is planned to be poured on
Wednesday. Work at Garden Ridge is progressing. Pavement marking is planning to
begin the first week of October. All roadside mowing should be complete by the
end of the week with touch-ups as needed. Warren stated that they hope to start
work on Platter Creek Road Bridge yet this construction season.
Steve Flickinger
and Linda Maag, State Auditors, met with the Board of Commissioners and the
Audit Committee for an Exit Audit meeting.
VFW Board members met with the Commissioners
to discuss the building and grounds.
The Commissioners attended the Continued
Final Hearing for the Lick Creek Ditch Improvement Project at the EMA
Building. The Joint Board authorized the
County Auditor to transfer funds to the Drainage Improvement Fund ($57,322.90
from Williams County and $26,641.70 from Defiance County). The Joint Board
approved payment of outstanding bills to: Defiance County Commissioners; Bryan
Times; Defiance Publishing; Defiance County Engineer; Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick,
LLP; and Theis Law Office, LLC. Based upon Judges’ recommendation, current, and
possible future, litigation costs making the cost benefit for the project to
most likely no longer be achievable, and the improvement appears to no longer
be conducive to the public welfare for the citizens of the Lick Creek
Watershed, the Joint Board approved to review and reconsider the Board’s former
orders and set aside these orders and dismiss the petition. The Continued Final
Hearing was adjourned to Monday, October 15, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Defiance County EMA Building to
finalize any outstanding administrative matters.
The Commissioners attended the
Defiance County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting at the Sherwood VFW Hall.
