The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session at 8:30 a.m.
on Thursday, September 18, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512. Vice-Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the
meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioner Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz,
Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General
Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and
documents. The Commissioners also
reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Defiance County recently launched a discount card program
to help consumers cope with the high price of prescription drugs. The County is making free prescription drug
discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association
of Counties (NACo) that offers average savings of 20 percent off the retail
price of commonly prescribed drugs. The
Commissioners received a report from NACo for the month of August 2008. A total of 169 Defiance County
citizens were able to use the prescription drug discount card for a savings of
$3,028.14. The retail submitted price of
the prescriptions totaled $16,012.78, but the users’ cost after the discounts
were $12,984.64.
Rand Vogel,
Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his August 2008 report to the
Commissioners. Randy reported that he received 111 complaints, of which 9 were
dog bites. This number is high and is
high across Ohio.
28 dogs were taken to the shelter and there were 24 citations issued. Randy also transported 1,280 pounds of
animals to the Landfill and drove 2,897 miles for the month of August.
Mike
Boff, Defiance County Soil & Water District Technician, met with the
Commissioners for the Black Ditch #03-05 Bid opening. The following bids were received: Sines Excavating, LLC (Defiance,
OH) - $143,463.00, Sand Ridge Excavating (Cloverdale, OH) -
$132,275.00, Shininger Surface Drainage (Defiance,
OH) - $145,673.00, J & M Excavating, Inc.
(Cloverdale, OH)
- $152,856.50, Meck-Donalds (Archbold,
OH) - $129,816.10. The referenced Bids will be reviewed by Mike Boff with an award at a later date.
